Obituary

MARY MARTHA RICHTER SNYDER, age 93, of Washington CH, passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at 8:40 p.m. at the home of her friend.

She was born on February 26, 1923 in Ross County to Warder Rudolph and Elsie Gossett Richter. She grew up in Chillicothe and was a 1941 graduate of Chillicothe High School.

She married Charles Henry Snyder, of Brooklyn, New York on October 20, 1950. Charles passed away in January of 2000. She was also preceded in death by her parents, brothers Alvin, Marland and Carlon Richter; step-mother, Mary Alvah Walker Richter. She leaves behind one niece, three nephews, several grand-nieces and nephews, and three special friends; Jason Gilmore, Teresa Ford, and Jo Langdon.

Mary was an accomplished pianist; early study with Regina Snyder and Dorothy Boyle of Chillicothe. She majored in piano at Eastman School of Music, Rochester, NY. She studied with artists Muriel Kerr of Julliard faculty, Robert Goldsand of the Manhattan School of Music in New York, Olga Conus, of the Cincinnati College of Music, Vittorio Verse, of Rutgers School of Music in New Jersey and George Haddad, of the Ohio State University of Columbus.

She made her debut at New York's Town Hall in October of 1965 and the second recital took place at Carnegie Recital Hall in October of 1972.

The Snyders moved to Washington CH from New Jersey following Mr. Snyder's retirement from Chase Manhattan Bank in 1967. They resided in Florida from October, 1977 until returning to Ohio in 1984. Mary continued as a recitalist, playing chamber music groups and taught privately all during her musical career.

Mary was a former member of the Cecilian Music Club and served as pianist at the First Baptist Church from 1990 until 2002.

The graveside committal service will be held on Monday, February 13, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Greenlawn Cemetery, 643 Eastern Ave., in Chillicothe with Joe Current officiating. A reception honoring Mary will be held at Jason Gilmore's house, 605 S. North St. in Washington CH, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
