IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Elizabeth
Rosetta Fish
October 12, 1947 – May 12, 2024
MARY ELIZABETH ROSETTA FISH, age 76, of Washington CH, passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2024 at Carriage Court Assisted Living, where she had been a resident since April.
She was born on October 12, 1947 in Washington D.C. to the late Charles Lewis, II and Mary (Groves) Gordon. She was a 1965 graduate of Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda, Maryland. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics from the University of Maryland, College Park, and her Master of Education from Ohio State University. Mary moved to her grandmother, Maude Grove's family farm in Yatesville, Ohio while obtaining her teaching license, to help care for her grandmother. Mary taught Home Economics for thirty-five years, thirty-three at the Washington Court House City Schools and was an advisor for FHA, which later became FCCLA. She loved teaching and her students. Mary participated in many community service and philanthropic groups including the East Street Historic Neighborhood Association, Phi Beta Psi, Delta Kappa Gamma, Grace United Methodist Church women's cooking group, and the Fayette County Historical Society. She was a Master Clothing Educator and longtime surrounding county fair judge for 4-H and was a member of the Fayette County Home Economists club. "Nana" also loved teaching her grandkids JD, Julia, and Graham about food, nutrition and kitchen safety and her granddaughter, Julia, to sew.
Mary wed the love of her life, David Goodwin Fish, in 1973 and they had one daughter, Mary Elisabeth King.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her oldest brother, Charlie Gordon and nephew, Doug Gordon.
Mary is survived by her loving husband, David, her daughter and son-in-law, Mary "Lisa" (Jason) King, and her grandchildren, JD, Julia, and Graham, who were her joy. She is also survived by her brother Fred Gordon and his son, Roy of New Holland, and her nieces and nephews Ginnie, Chris, Charlie, and Erin Gordon.
Mary taught parenting classes and prided herself on providing well timed hugs and parenting tips like using "I feel ____, when you_____" communication. She also told everyone who would listen to tuck their kids in every night and spend a moment giving their child a backrub before bed to help them open up about their day.
The family will hold a private funeral with arrangements under the direction of Summers Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to Fayette County 4-H, 1415 US Highway 22 SW, Washington CH, OH 43160, to provide sewing supplies, awards and scholarships to Fayette County youth involved in the lost art of sewing.
