MARY ELIZABETH SMEDLEY, age 82, of Washington CH, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 22, 2023 at Carriage Court of Washington CH.

She was born on February 10, 1944 in Johnson City, Tennessee to the late Clyde and Ruth (Randolph) Blazer. She was a 1962 graduate of Chillicothe High School and a graduate of Indiana Wesleyan University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She retired from Washington City Schools where she worked as a second and third grade teacher for many years. Mary was a faithful member at the First Baptist Church in Washington CH and attended until her health would no longer allow. She enjoyed raising her flowers, painting, listening to music, and spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her sister, Martha Fisher, her first husband, Dane Mossbarger, and her second husband, Clyde Smedley.

Survivors include her siblings, Paul David (Ruth Ann) Blazer, Esther (James) Steele, and Deborah (Philip) Rhodes-Minic; brother-in-law, Duane Fisher; and special friends, David and Carla Shipley. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Bobby Seymour officiating with burial to follow at the Highlawn Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Friday morning from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
