NELLIE MAY SCAGGS, age 97, of Washington CH, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, March 27, 2017 at 2:23 p.m. at the Court House Manor Nursing Home.
She was born on September 29, 1919 in Scioto County, Ohio to William E. and Sarah Benner Long. Nellie was a long time member of the Madison Mills Methodist Church and was active in the Willing Workers Sunday School class. She enjoyed cooking, reading, sewing, gardening, and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her family states, "she was a wonderful witness for her Lord and Savior."
Nellie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Walter Scaggs, whom she married on February 20, 1937, granddaughter, Lana Hidy, great-grandson, Loren Levering, siblings, Dorothy Owsley, Wilma Allison, Margaret Dillard, Mary Long, Lula Long, Lawrence, Homer, Roy, Ralph, and Harold Long.
Survivors include her children, Donald R. (Mary Lou) Scaggs, Janet (Eugene) Levering, Marilyn (Jerald) Hitchcock, Evelyn Leemkuil, Marcia (Lewis) Nicol, and Teresa (Bryan) Woodruff; grandchildren, George LeBeau, Steven Levering, Craig Neff, Jonathan Scaggs, Jared Neff, Justin Davis, Lisa Oskoui, Laran Rogers, Lanae Wright, Karen Levering, and Julie Simpkins; great-grandchildren, Josh Wright, Forrest Hewiett, Macy LeBeau, Jacob, Lindsey, Sydney, and Ryan Spires, Mariah Wright, Kylie Davis, Jared, Kenneth, John Rogers, Garrett and Taylor Neff; five great-great-grandchildren; sister, Jane (Don) Elliott. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins and many good friends and caregivers.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Dr. Ralph Hux officiating with burial to follow at the Madison Mills Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
