Obituary

OPAL LUCILLE LEIST, age 87, of Washington Court House, passed away at 6:45 a.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Mount Carmel-Grove City Hospital. Born on November 24, 1937, in Adams County, she was the daughter of the late Noah and Madge Unger Sylvia. On May 3, 1954, she married her loving husband of more than seventy years, Stanley R. Leist, who survives.

Opal had previously attended the Bible Baptist Temple Church in Washington C.H., and had recently been attending Washington C.H. Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed crafting, making ceramics, feeding the birds, rabbits and chipmunks at her house and loving her grandkids.

In addition to her husband, survivors include her grandchildren, Kenneth R. and Kimberly N. Leist; her siblings, David (Roberta) Sylvia, Roy Sylvia and Thelma Linehan. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Along with her parents, Opal was preceded in death by her son, Randolph A. Leist and her siblings, Gladys Daft, Margaret Lee and Noah R. Sylvia.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, December 20, 2024, in the Summers Funeral Home with Senior Pastor of the Bible Baptist Temple, Trent Spangler officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Cemetery, Mt. Sterling. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
