ORVILLE S. DIXON JR., age 80, of Washington CH, passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 10:39 a.m. at the Fayette County Memorial Hospital. He was born on November 30, 1933 in Fayette County to Orville Sr. and Laura Peters Dixon. He was a 1951 graduate of Good Hope High School. He proudly served his country in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He had worked for more than 30 years as Superintendent of the Wastewater Plant for the City of Washington. Orville was a member of the American Legion Post #25, a life member of the VFW Post #3762 and was a past member of the Elks #129 and the Eagles #423. He enjoyed working crossword puzzles, playing the lottery, feeding the squirrels and loved his late canine companion, Shelby. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife and his son always said that his dad "was the luckiest man in the world". He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Richard L. Dixon, Dean R. Dixon and Gene R. Dixon. Survivors include his wife Beverly Sprague Dixon, whom he married on December 18, 1955; his children Clifford J. (Jo) Dixon, Gregory A. (Linda) Dixon, Janice M. (Joe) Guard and Susan A. (Jeff) Lane; grandchildren Allison Keidel, Cassandra Dellinger, Stephanie Harrod, Christopher Dixon and Jonathan Dixon; great-grandchildren Hayley, Katie, Alexandria and expectant great-grandchild Cole Sheridan; brother Randy J. (Laura) Dixon; sisters-in-law Elizabeth and Carol Dixon as well as several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Danny Dodds officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place at a later date at the convenience of the family.
