PAUL EUGENE CHANDLER, age 81, of Grove City, passed away on Friday, February 9, 2024 at his home while surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on December 25, 1942 in Fayette County to the late Lawrence and Mary C. (Nuchols) Chandler. Paul attended grade school in Washington CH and in January of 1960, he joined the United States Army. He was only seventeen years old at this time. Paul was stationed in several different areas in the United States, Asia, and Europe. He served for twenty-one years, retiring in 1980. While in the Army, Paul obtained his GED. After retirement, he received an associate degree from Ivy Tech in Columbus, Indiana. Paul worked as a heavy equipment mechanic. He was a member of #103 Operator Engineer's Union for over thirty years. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, bird watching, gardening, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.
On October 10, 1964, Paul married Judy Hinkley in Washington CH. Judy was the daughter of the late Orville and Mary (Belvens) Hinkley. They had three children together, Eddie Joe Chandler, Wendy Jo Chandler, and the late Lanora Lynn Chandler. Paul and Judy divorced in 1977.
In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his daughter, Lanora Lynn (Chandler) Havens, who passed on June 2, 1994; and siblings, Raymond Workman, Mary Lou Jennings, Eddie Workman, and Bobby Mennix.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Lorraine Ester (Hamann) Chandler, whom he married on September 24, 1977, they have resided in Indiana since 1981; children, Eddie Joe (Becky) Chandler, and Wendy Jo (Victor) Tevenal; step-sons, Jon (Wanda) Thurston, Bruce (Michelle) Thurston, and Paul Thurston; grandchildren, Matthew (Ricky) Stanley, Cody (Tabitha) Chandler, Whitney Gray, Taylor Gray, DeSean Wallace, Christopher (Ashley) Thurston, Jennifer (Tony) Proiette, and Brandon (Alexa) Havens; great-grandchildren, Allison, Landon, Tyler, Myles, Marley, Rylan, Carter, Carson, Ryland, Westin, Ellie, and Charlotte; and brothers, John (Gloria) Workman, and Joe Workman. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Joy Stanforth officiating. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place on Friday, February 16, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison, Indiana.
