PHYLLIS CHARLENE GROOMS, age 87, of Washington CH, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2026 at her home.
She was born on March 21, 1939 in Sabina, Ohio to the late Albert and Hazel (Sheese) Coder. She attended Washington High School and later received her GED. Phyllis worked as a nursing assistant at several different nursing homes in the local area. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, going on vacations, and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arthur A. Grooms, whom she married on January 15, 1966, and her siblings, Barbara, Joanne, Thomas, Jerry, Michael, and Karen.
Survivors include her children, James (Hazel) Grooms, Judy (James) Havens, and Trudy Spencer; grandchildren, Miranda Grooms, Tiffany (Michael) Taylor, Jamison Chaudhry, Jennifer (Daniel Hill) Williams, Michael Curry, Robbie (Tiffany Baughn) Rapp, and Lindsey Spencer; fifteen great-grandchildren; special great-granddaughter, Bentley Ann Grooms; and sister, Sheila Sears. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Ohio’s Hospice of Fayette County for the excellent care they provided.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Chaplain Steve Wetterhan officiating with burial to follow at the Milledgeville-Plymouth Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Friday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Ohio’s Hospice of Fayette County, 222 N. Oakland Ave., Washington CH, OH 43160.
