RANDALL GREY BURNSIDE, age 77, of Jeffersonville, passed away on Monday, September 4, 2023 at his home.
He was born on October 15, 1945 in Coffeyville, Kansas to the late Fred Duke, Jr. and Betty Jean (Dutiel) Burnside. He was a 1963 graduate of Wheelersburg High School and a 1968 graduate of Morehead State University where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Education. Randall began his teaching and coaching career in Wheelersburg and continued to Jackson, then to Southeastern Schools in Ross County where he started their football program. In 1978 he and his wife, Sue, moved to Fayette County and he retired from Miami Trace in 1999. He taught History and Social Studies and was also a football and baseball coach. Randall had won many coaching awards, the most prestigious being from Southwest Ohio Baseball Coaches Association (SWOBCA) He had been a member at the Saint Colman of Cloyce Catholic Church in Washington CH. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, making his homemade salsa, and attending his grandchildren's sporting activities.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Sue Ellen (Scherer) Burnside, whom he married on August 16, 1968; his children, Robert (Angelique) Burnside and Angela (James) LeBeau; grandchildren, Braden, Ruslan, Isiaac, Zane, Zhana, Marah, Trevon, Jayden, Asher, Camden, and Tynzley. In addition to several surviving brothers and sister's in-law, he is survived by his brother, Joe (Linda) Burnside, to whom he filled in as a father figure due to the premature death of their father. The two of them enjoyed fishing, watching sports, and listening to music together. Also surviving is his faithful canine companion, Minnie, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Jeffersonville Library, 8 N. Main St., Jeffersonville, OH 43128 or to Ohio's Hospice of Fayette County, 222 N. Oakland Ave., Washington CH, OH 43160.
The funeral will be held on Friday, September 8, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Father C.M. Haddad officiating with burial to follow at the Saint Colman of Cloyne Catholic Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 4-7:00 p.m. and then again on Friday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
