REV. RICHARD A. "DOC" HOLLIDAY SR., age 72, of Bloomingburg, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, May 18, 2015 at 3:04 a.m. at the Doctor's West Hospital.
He was born on August 12, 1942 in Hoopers Island, Maryland to Robert C. and Olive Todd Holliday. He was a 1960 graduate of South Dorchester High School where he excelled in Math, Sciences and Shop. He had served in the ministry for over 44 years in such areas as Pennsylvania, New York, Maine, North Carolina, Florida and Ohio. He had been serving as the Pastor at the Era Pilgrim Holiness Church. He had visited Haiti twice on missionary trips. He was known as the "jack of all trades, master of none". He enjoyed carpentry, was very caring and giving and loved spending time with his family.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Richard "Bud" Holliday Jr. and siblings Vaughn Holliday and Jeannette Fitzhugh.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Ann Dawson Holliday, whom he married on August 17, 1961; his children Donald (Crickett) Holliday of Mt. Sterling, Joyce Hook, Evette "Shelly" (Bob) Searles and Leah Holliday; daughter-in-law Anne Holliday and his adopted son, Terry Saunders all of Bloomingburg; 15 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; brother John (Lori) Holliday; In-laws Sharon and George Brittingham; Aunt Pat Adler all of Maryland as well as a host of church family and friends all over the world.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, May 22, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene, 226 N. Market St., Mt. Sterling, with Rev. Rick Smith and Rev. Billy McCoy officiating with burial to follow at the Pleasant Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. and again on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
