RICK LEE SMITH, age 67, of Washington CH, passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at 7:38 p.m. at his home. He was born on June 22, 1949 in Highland County, to the late Dale Smith and Kathleen Manley Wheaton. He was a 1968 graduate of Greenfield McClain High School where he excelled in the sport of football. He attended Kansas City University for one year on a football scholarship but soon returned home to help care for his parents. He had worked at International Paper in Wilmington, Ohio. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan, enjoyed wrestling, and spending time with his family and friends. Rick also coached freshman football at Greenfield McClain and also served as an assistant varsity coach. Survivors include his wife, Lora Cardiff Smith, whom he married on July 27, 1969; children, Amy (Allan) Hudson and Chad J. Smith; grandchildren, Kourtney Paris, Seth and Jordan Simmons, and Emma Smith; siblings, Penny Wheaton and Neil Smith; special cousin, Shane Enix; special friends, Brooke Rannells, Beau Culberson, Doug "Big Country" Davies, and Ina Severs. He loved all of his players, especially Timmy Campbell, his favorite football player. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Adena Hospice.
