Obituary

ROBERT DEAN THOMPSON, age 77, of Washington CH, passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at his home.

He was born on June 11, 1948 in Fayette County and was the eleventh son of Floyd and Hester Thompson who laid the foundation for a lifetime of love, family, and service.

Robert married his beloved, Mary Ann (Hunt) Thompson on March 17, 1967. Together, they built a home filled with love, devotion, and laughter in Washington CH. Robert and Mary Ann had two children teaching them the value of hard work, honesty, and dedication. Robert loved gardening, the outdoors, hunting, spending time with his family, and he loved his pets, especially Katie, his forever faithful companion. He was a devoted Christian and faithful member at Crossroads Christian Church. He served his community with a variety of projects including farming and tending a garden to provide food for The Well. He served in the Air Force Reserves starting in 1967 for six years and was a Veteran of the Air Force Reserves and worked at Rickenbacker Air Force Base. After his military service, he farmed for thirteen years and retired from Showa Aluminum in Mount Sterling in 2009.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Hester; siblings, Minnie Stevens, Tillie “Thelma” Dunn, Ruby Parrett, Betty Huff, Donna Martindale, Edna Cowman, Vernon Thompson, Glenn Thompson, James “Jimmy” Thompson, and John Thompson.

He is survived by his devoted wife Mary Ann; his sons, Scott (Gwen) Thompson, and Ryan Thompson; granddaughters, Bayley Thompson, Shania (Peters) Vestal, and Kiera Thompson; sisters-in-law, Patty Thompson, and Barbara Thompson; brother-in-law, Bob Martindale; several nieces and nephews; and his current furry friend, Woody.

Robert's legacy is one of love, service, and devotion. He will be missed and remembered as an honor and privilege to have known and been loved by him. In accordance with Robert’s wishes, cremation will take place and a burial will be held at the Jeffersonville Township Fairview Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, May 4, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. at the Crossroads Christian Church with Pastor Adam Lynch officiating. Family and friends may visit at the church on Monday morning from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Crossroads Christian Church, 175 Halliday Way, Washington CH, OH 43160.
