RODGER PAUL SMITH, age 64, of Washington CH, passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at 9:15 a.m. at his home after his courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on May 23, 1951 in Washington CH to Paul E. and Gail Reisinger Smith. He was a 1970 Washington High School graduate. He retired from Fayette County Memorial Hospital as the Director of Buildings and Grounds and the Dietary Department. He had also previously worked as an electrician at the OSU Wexner Medical Center, had worked in the Parts Department at the International Harvester Store and previously owned and operated the Service Master Franchaise, both of Washington CH. He was a member of the Crossroads Christian Church, and was involved in New Image and Shakley Products. During the Sesquicentennial, Rodger had the honor of cutting the first piece of cake for that celebration. He loved riding his motorcycle, golfing, traveling and was a CSI "junkie". He was a member of the Fayette County Prayer Riders Association and was past president and regional director of the Jaycees.
Rodger was preceded in death by his father, and his brother, Kenny Smith.
Survivors include his mother, his wife, Jeanne Smith, whom he married on April 30, 1972; his children Christie Lyn Smith and Scott Alan Smith and his wife Becky; grandson Branson T. Collins; siblings Rick Smith and Shelby Bandy as well as his beloved canine fur babies, Brutus and Isobel.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2015 at 3:00 in the afternoon at the Crossroads Christian Church, 175 Halliday Lane, Washington CH with Todd Maurer officiating. Burial of the cremains will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family in the Good Hope Cemetery.
