Words from his Mama:
On November 27, 2023, Butch came home from OSU for what would be his last trip there. We had hoped and prayed for another transplant, but it was not meant to be. We thought we would have 3 months to a year to prepare for this time.
On Saturday at 12:10 p.m., surrounded by his family and friends, he took his last breath here on earth and his next at Home in Heaven with Jesus and the many loved ones who had went before him. We knew he was at peace in his new home.
He was a fighter and he fought through more pain and procedures than anyone should ever have to, but he never lost hope or faith in Jesus. Butch was blessed with a wonderful care team of Doctors and Nurses at OSU Rhodes Hall #10, also known as his home away from home. He was loved by his caregivers and even other patients. He never missed an opportunity to tell his story and give all the glory to God.
Butch loved life, his family, his friends who became family, and the great outdoors. He had a passion for fishing and hunting and never missed a chance to go when he was able.
He loved the Buffalo Bills and that team "up north!" But he was always quick to applaud the Buckeyes. After surgery he would say, "I had major surgery you know." That was his go-to line when he wanted a new cup, shirt, or hat from his sister or one of the kids.
He had a profound sense of humor and a laugh that was so contagious; you could not stay mad at him! His wife and brother found out in his last days as he was working them over and they would not have had it any other way!
If he had the choice to stay, he would have. He loved his life but when it became a chore, and he could not stand the pain in his wife's eyes and his boys Dusty and Zach and his precious Deakon and Sissy and so many others he gave in to the inevitable.
On that beautiful December 9, 2023, he went Home to Jesus and all those awaiting his arrival.
Thank you, Butch Yoakum, for blessing us with the privilege of being in your life. We would not have missed it for the world. We love you and we will…
