ROGER A. LONGBERRY, age 67, of Washington CH, passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 3:35 p.m. at the Fayette County Memorial Hospital Emergency Room.
He was born on April 2, 1949 in Fayette County to Johnny Raymond and Ruby Naomi Edwards Longberry. He was a Washington High School graduate. He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam era where he was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He worked as a pipe fitter for the Fayette Fire and Safety and also had worked at Allis-Chambers. Roger had attended the Assembly of God where he was baptized, was a long standing member of the VFW #3762 and also the Night Owls CB Club. He enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren, Nascar racing, Buckeye football and the Reds.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert Dale Longberry, nephew Bradley Dale Longberry, aunts Mary Gray, Jean Keller and uncle Clem Edwards.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma Lyons Longberry, whom he married on April 20, 1974; his children Karen Hart, Beverly (Steve) Dailey, and Ray Heckhert Jr.; grandchildren Michelle (Rickey) Taylor, Buckie Ray (Mandy) Caulley, Daniel (Gina) Merritt and S. Aaron (Alisha) Dailey; great-grandchildren Brittany (Josh) Beverly, Melissa (Rob) Rutherford, Wyatt and Ian Merritt, Cassen, Katie, Noah, Ava and Isabella Dailey, and Brodie, Alexander and Brylie Caulley; great-great-grandchildren Ryan Rutherford, Harper and Carson Beverly; brother Ronnie (Joyce) Longberry; aunts Betty Keller and Penny Hollar; nieces Brooke (Jacob) Mills, Missy Rice, Jody (Theresa) Longberry, Mindy (Kenny) Massie and Brittany (Kris) Butcher as well as several great-nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. Roger is also survived by his pets Princess, Star, Brownie and Blondie.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Pastor Keith Clary officiating with burial to follow at the Washington Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. The family would like to extend an invitation to join them for a meal being held in the backroom of the VFW immediately following the burial.
