Obituary

RONALD LEE SOCKMAN, age 85, of Washington CH, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at the Adena Greenfield Medical Center.

He was born on February 14, 1941 in Fayette County to the late Albert and Bernice (Redding) Sockman. Ronald was a highly skilled carpenter and was employed by the Ohio State Carpenters in Columbus. He spent most of life working to support his wife and five children.

He enjoyed building homes, making his famous strawberry jelly, baking cakes, gardening, canning, listening to country music, shopping on QVC, taking trips to Kentucky, picking strawberries, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Ronald was preceded in death by his wife, Karen (Riley) Sockman; daughter, Dena (Sockman) Lyons; siblings, Lucinda “Sissy” (Jerry) Harper, Rodger (Evie) Sockman, Betty Jane (Frank) Waits, Floyd Sockman, Sonny Sockman, Melvin (Betty) Sockman, Theordore Sockman, Phillip “Buddy” Sockman, Bobby Sockman, and Wanda (William) Vanover; sister-in-law, Shirley Sockman; and brothers-in-law, Bob Hall, and Donald Graham.

Survivors include his children, Ronald, Jr. (Kelly) Sockman, Richard (Karey) Sockman, Christopher (Amy) Sockman, and Michael (Donna) Sockman; grandchildren, Ashley (Phillip, Jr.) Groves, Courtney (Dan) Grovatt, Kristen (Jordan) Ralph, Wade (Julia ) Sockman, Laura (Hayden) Willett, Cole Sockman, Ashley (Timothy) Baker, and Jake (Milly) Allen; great-grandchildren, Cameron (Kira) Groves, Anthony (Mikayla) Groves, Alex (Emma) Groves, McKenna Groves, Luna Sockman, Lydia Baker, Jude Baker, June Allen, and Caroline Allen; great-great-grandchildren, Ivy and Myra Groves; siblings, Jack Sockman, Terry Sockman, Jean Anne Hall, and Sue Graham; and sister-in-law, Janie Sockman. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, June 29, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Phillip Gant officiating with burial to follow at the Highlawn Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Monday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
