ROY ALBERT "PETE" MITCHEM, age 71, of Washington CH, passed away on Monday, September 10, 2018 at 5:59 p.m. at Riverside Methodist Hospital.
He was born on September 12, 1946 in Fayette County to Chester Francis and Gladys Marie Saltz Mitchem. He was a 1964 graduate of Miami Trace High School; after graduation he attended technical school for computer programming. Pete retired from Armco Steel in 2004. He had been a member at the New Holland Methodist Church and the New Holland Masonic Lodge Post# 392. He enjoyed fishing, vacationing in Myrtle Beach and Gatlinburg, politics, and being with his family.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents; nephew, David Kahler; mother-in-law, Mary West Stroh; and father-in-law, Floyd West.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Ann West Mitchem, whom he married on September 27, 1969; children, Matthew Mitchem, and Alan Mitchem; sister, Frances (Bill) Kahler; nieces, Phyllis Kahler, and Diane (Tony) Teixeira; sister-in-law, Nancy (Robert) Rhodes; niece, Emily Wright; and nephew, Ethan Wright. Also surviving are several great nieces and nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
The graveside service will be held on Friday, September 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the New Holland Cemetery with Danny Dodds officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the charity of your choice.
