RUTH “JOY” VALENTINE, age 83, of Washington CH, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at her home.
She was born on November 27, 1942 in Hillsboro, Ohio to the late Hulitt and Ruth (Diven) Polk. She was a graduate of Washington High School. Joy retired from the Miami Trace School District where she had worked as a school bus driver for many years. She was a faithful member at the Crossroads Christian Church in Washington CH. She enjoyed attending church activities, crocheting, playing card games, and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, Joy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Thomas “Jim” Valentine, whom she married on June 2, 1961; two sons, Rusty Valentine, and Ronnie Valentine; and siblings, Butch, Wayne, Gary, and Wanda.
Survivors include her children, Diana Lynn (Joseph) Hopkins, and Rodney A. Valentine; grandchildren, Kacey (Jeremy) Eplin, Justin Dawson, Mandy (Joseph) Babineau, Annie Williams, Janel (Daniel) Lynn, Andrew James (Kara) Valentine, and Kayle Sue Valentine; and numerous great-grandchildren. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. at the Crossroads Christian Church, 175 Halliday Way, Washington CH, OH 43160, with Pastor Adam Lynch officiating with burial to follow at the Good Hope Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the church on Wednesday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Second Chance Center of Hope, 420 W. Oakland Ave., Washington CH, OH 43160.
