SELDON "GENE" SMALLWOOD, age 81, of New Holland, passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at 4:14 p.m.at the Riverside Methodist Hospital with his loving family by his side after battling heart problems. He was born on September 28, 1933 in Powell, Kentucky to Everett and Mary Reed Smallwood. He proudly served his country in the US Marines during the Korean Conflict. Gene had worked at Armco in Washington CH from 1962 to 1987 and retired due to health issues. He loved flying and piloted his own plane until he was no longer able to do so. He was passionate about his children and grandchildren. Gene was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Selby Smallwood. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Clara Kemplin Smallwood, whom he married on April 6, 1956; his children George (Terri) Smallwood and Kim (Marlen) Howard; grandchildren and great-grandchildren Kurt (Brittany), Austin, Gavin, Ava, Easton, Preston, Roger, Eric (Sarah), Annabel and Sam Smallwood, Brandon, Daniel and Mikaela Howard; sister Faye (Earl) Adams as well as several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. at the New Holland Church of Christ in Christian Union with Larry Doss and Mike Hodge officiating with burial to follow at the New Holland Cemetery.
