STEVE E. SMALLEY, age 64, of Washington CH, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2015 at 10:41 a.m. at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 12, 1950 in Fayette County to James and Mary Lou Slavens Smalley. He had worked at Palm Harbor Homes for more than 30 years and also Walmart Super Center. He was a 1968 graduate of Washington High School. He was a member of the Grace Methodist Church where he was baptized, and actively participated in the Men's Bible Study. He was an avid Ohio State sports fan as well as enjoying watching baseball and going golfing. Steve loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was an advocate for melanoma awareness and a speaker for at the Melanoma Symposium. Steve was preceded in death by his father, James Smalley. Survivors include his mother Mary Lou Smalley of Kentucky and step-mother Josie Smalley of Washington CH; his wife Karen Warner Smalley, whom he married on August 7, 1976; his children Jay (Wendy) Smalley of Washington CH, Brandon (Lauren) Smalley, Craig (Kristie) Smalley both of Kentucky and Brittany Hellenthal, whom he thought of as a daughter; grandchildren Eva, Tommy, Caleb, Carter and a new baby Smalley on the way; siblings Scott (Cindy) Smalley, Stacy (Jim) Downing and Shelley (Don) Stahl all of Kentucky as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. The funeral service will be held on Friday, June 26, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. at the Grace United Methodist Church, with Rev. Mick Whistler officiating. Friends may call at the Summers Funeral Home on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. and again on Friday from 4:00 until the time of the service.
