SUSAN D. SPEARS, age 72, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 17, 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on April 6, 1953 in Fayette County to Melvin E. and Anna L. "Amy" (Amspaugh) Parks. She was a 1971 graduate of Miami Trace High School. After high school, Susan attended nursing school and graduated from the Community Hospital School of Nursing in Springfield. Susan worked at Fayette County Memorial Hospital and the Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe. After retirement, she continued working as a Home Health Nurse and enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren. Susan was a faithful member of the South Side Church of Christ, and she loved reading her Bible. She adored her animals, especially her rescue dog, Cara. Susan's hobbies included gardening, sewing, going on cruises, and being on the beaches of Florida and Hawaii.
Susan was preceded in death by her father, Melvin Parks; father-in-law, Fred Spears; sister-in-law, Carol Sue Tharpe; and nephew, Zach Cole.
Survivors include her mother, Amy Parks; her beloved husband of fifty years, Gary Spears, whom she married on June 8, 1974; daughters, Shellie (Ruben) Coonrod, and Megan (Timothy) Foster; grandchildren, Derek, Grant, Grace, Emily, and Tristen; siblings, Vicki Parks, Junior (Flossy) Parks, and Oscar Parks; mother-in-law, Janice Spears; sisters-in-law, Bonnie Cole, Nancy (Keith) Downing, and Melanie (Bryan) Cockerill; and brothers-in-law, Jeff (Nancy) Spears, Mark (Kathy) Spears, and Neil (Loree) Spears . Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends including her best friends Charlotte Christopher, Bev Corbet, and Becky Mason.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, April 25, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the South Side Church of Christ with Pastor Todd Mauer officiating. Family and friends may visit at Summers Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 4-8:00 p.m. and again on Friday morning at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In keeping with her wishes, cremation will follow.
