SYLVIA JUNE JONES, was 91 years, 9 months and 24 days, of Washington CH, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 8:55 a.m. at the Fayette County Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
She was born on January 5, 1925 in Pike County to James William and Emma Elizabeth White Sprouse. She was a graduate of Chillicothe High School. She had been a member of the South Side Church of Christ since April 5, 1953, where she loved singing in the church choir and also loved her favorite pastor, "Danny Boy". She had been employed by the State of Ohio at the former Orient State Institute as a nurse. Sylvia, along with her husband Bill, had farmed together on the Jones Family Farm, for many years, she was active at the Fayette County Commission on Aging, also, the PERS where she served as president of Chapter 40, and was a member of the Ohio Historical Society. She was known as a jack of all trades, enjoyed dancing, and researching geneology.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, William "Bill" Jones, whom she had been married to for 71 years, her son, John Franklin Jones, grandson, Brian Heath Grooms, and siblings, Betty Terry, Madeline Sprouse, John and George Sprouse.
Survivors include her children, Jennifer "JJ" Jones, who had cared for her mother for the last seven months, Bill (Debbie "Slim") Jones, and Barbara Ann Jones; grandchildren, David T. (Tanya) Funk, Thadd (Amy) Jones, Jamie (Jeff) Hulligan, Elizabeth (Kevid) Ortiz, Shawn Michael Ortiz, Richie, Marty and Tessa Grooms; 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; sister, Catherine M. "Kate" Rinehart as well as several nieces and nephews and her four legged friends, Garfield, Katie, Harley and Bucky.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Danny Dodds officiating with burial to follow at the Washington Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
