THELMA E. (LYONS) LONGBERRY, age 80, of Washington CH, passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Catherine's Manor.
She was born on February 12, 1936 in Fayette County to Thomas E. and Florence B. Groves Lyons. Thelma had worked at Ross Cleaners Inc. until 1992 when she retired to care for her husband. She had attended the Assembly of God Church, she was a past president of the Ladies' Auxiliary of VFW Post #3762, and she was a member of the Night Owls CB Club. She had been a caregiver of many family members, enjoyed going to yard sales, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with all of her family.
Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 42 years, Roger A. Longberry, who passed away in September, 2016, brothers, Pete, Floyd, Lloyd Jr. and William Eugene "Gene" Lyons, sisters-in-law, Florence and Mary Lyons, brother-in-law, Robert D. Longberry, and in-laws, Jonny and Ruby Longberry.
Survivors include her children, Karen Hart, Beverly (Steve) Dailey, and Ray Heckert Jr.; grandchildren, Michelle (Ricky) Taylor, Buckie Ray (Mandy) Caulley, Daniel L. (Gina) Merritt, and S. Aaron (Alisha) Dailey; great-grandchildren, Brittany (Josh) Beverly, Melissa (Rob) Rutherford, Wyatt and Ian Merritt, Cassen, Katie, Noah, Ava, and Isabella Dailey, Brodie, Alexander, and Bryle Caulley; great-great-grandchildren, Ryan Rutherford, Harper and Carson Beverly; brother-in-law, Ronnie (Joyce) Longberry; sisters-in-law, Thelma and Helen Lyons and special friends, Liz Gullett and Linsey Panio as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. Also surviving are her beloved pets, Blondie and Brownie.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Pastor Keith Clary officiating with burial to follow at the Washington Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. The family had requested your presence at a meal following the burial at the VFW.
