TRAVERSE R. HOLLINGSWORTH, age 92, of Washington CH, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at 7:05 p.m. at the OSU Wexner Zusman at the Ross.
He was born on April 14, 1922 in Bowersville, Ohio to Orville and Audrey Story Hollingsworth. He was a 1940 Jefferson High School graduate. He proudly served his country in General Patton's Third Army during WWII where he was involved in five campaigns, including the Battle of the Bulge. He also helped liberate the Buchenwald Concentration Camp.
Traverse was a local manager of the JP Morgan Chase Financial Company in Washington CH for 27 years. He was a member of the South Side Church of Christ. He excelled in sports in high school, especially baseball and basketball. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was a great fan of the UK Wildcats. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved his feline, T.C.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Hazel, Marjorie, Cleo and Maxine and brothers, Arthur and Don.
Survivors include his wife, Fern Wilt Hollingsworth, whom he married on July 19, 1949; his children Julie Byard (Mike) Cossette of Lexington, KY and Linda (David) Knisley of Washington CH; grandchildren John Traverse (Whitney) Byard, Jeremy Michael (Laura) Byard, Christopher (Amber) Cossette, Jenipher (David) Griffith, Kenny Cossette and Michael C. (Danyel) Cossette; great-grandchildren Sydney, Tyler and William Traverse Byard; great-great-grandchildren Cannon and Piper Cossette, Mason Griffith and Caiden Cossette; sisters-in-law Bernita Hollingsworth and Wanda Wilt; brothers-in-law Ralph (Dorothy) Wilt, Marlin Wilt, John (Helen) Wilt, Robert (Sandy) Wilt, Richard (Margaret) Wilt, Malcolm Wilt and Ron (Sandy) Wilt as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, March 16, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. at the South Side Church of Christ with Danny Dodds officiating with burial to follow at the Milledgeville-Plymouth Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Sunday from 2-6 p.m. and again on Monday, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
