VIRGIL "BOOTIE" EUGENE COPAS, age 78, of Washington CH, passed away on Monday, April 9, 2018 at 6:19 a.m. at Court House Manor.
He was born on March 10, 1940 in Adams County to Norman and Marjorie Grooms Copas. Virgil retired from the Mead Corporation in 2004; he then went to work at Midland Acres. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother. Virgil was a member at the Church of Christ on St Rt 38. He enjoyed going for rides, working with horses, mowing the church lawn, and picking on his grandchildren.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother-in-law, Delbert Knisley.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Jean Dunn Copas, whom he married on February 23, 1969; his children, Dawn (Kurt) Merritt, Christopher S. (Heather DeCamp) Chaffin, Terry E. (Toni) Copas, and Shane T. Copas; grandchildren, Kisha Merritt, Jamee Merritt, Christopher T. Chaffin, Tawny (Bryan) McKnight, Tera (Zach) Harrison, Haley, Brent, and Nick Copas; great-grandchildren, Dakota Merritt, Gavin Ratliff, Alaina, and Christopher S. Chaffin, Emily Renee Keaton, Grayson Carter, and Graham Parker Harrison; and siblings, Delcie (Ted) Bowman, Norma McCown, Sharon Knisley, Patricia Garringer, and Lonnie (Teresa) Copas. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of Christ, 1550 St Rt 38 NE, Washington CH, OH 43160 with Brother Bill Myers officiating with burial to follow at the Washington Cemetery. Friends may visit at the church on Thursday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
