WALTER EDWARD 'PUNKY' WHEELER, age 63, of Washington CH, he left to be with the Lord, surrounded by his family and friends, on Friday, January 6, 2017 at 1:45 p.m. at his home, after an extended illness.

Punky was born on December 8, 1953 in Fayette County, where he spent his entire life, to Charles William and Sarah Jane Burchill Wheeler. He had worked for the YUSA Corp. for more than 23 years and was dedicated to his job and to his family. He absolutely loved cars, working on cars, or anything that had to do with cars. He was loved by everyone in town and will always be remembered for his huge helping heart and comical comments. He will be missed by everyone.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ronald William Wheeler, and sister, Victoria JoAnn Wheeler Roberts.

Survivors include the love of his life, and wife of 41 years, Rita Jean Maag Wheeler, whom he married on September 19, 1975; aunt, Mary Holly, special cousin, Charley Bryan as well as a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends including special friends, Chuck and Tracie Kimsey and Debbie Payton Knox who he thought of as a little sister. Also surviving are his canine companions, Bambam and Pebbles.

The family would like to extend a special "thank you" to Community Hospice for their amazing care.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Danny Dodds officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
