WANDA LOUISE FURNISS McCARTY, age 83, of Washington Court House, passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2025, shortly after her arrival at Adena Fayette Medical Center. Born on January 8, 1942, in Fayette County, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Mary Matthews Clay. On October 8, 2017, she married Ernest McCarty, who survives.

Wanda was a 1960 graduate of Fairfield High School in Leesburg and worked at the US Shoe Factory in Greenfield for many years. However, she took the most pride in her role of being a loving wife, mother and grandmother and took great care of her family. Wanda was an avid fan of both The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Reds and was known for being a passionate "yard seller".  She also threw the best coupon parties and in her younger years, she enjoyed bowling and often participated in the local leagues.

In addition to her loving husband, Wanda is survived by her children, Lisa (Dwayne Beverly) Furniss of Greenfield, Andy (Brendon Sears) Furniss of Jeffersonville and her stepson, Victor (Caroline) McCarty of Bowersville; her brother, Ronald (Judy) Clay of Washington C.H.; and her sister in-law, Reba "Susie" Clay of Greenfield. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Rhea Gregory of Greenfield, Breahna (Brett Sarven) George of Fairborn and Jameson Furniss of Jeffersonville; her Honorary Son, Brian (Karen) George of Lynchburg; her lifelong friend, John Shaw of Washington C.H. along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Along with her parents, Wanda was preceded in death by her first husband, Mark Furniss; her brothers, Kenny, Gary, Arnold and Bobby Clay; her brother in-law, Charles Furniss as well as her lifelong friend, Karolyn Shaw.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 5, 2025, in the Summers Funeral Home with Danny Dodds and Don Olley officiating, burial to follow in the White Oak Grove Cemetery, Beuna Vista. Friends may visit the family on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
