WILLIAM IRELAN "BILL" BENNETT, age75, of Bloomingburg, passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at 7:37 p.m. at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.

He was born on March 6, 1947, in Fayette County to the late Thurman and Reba (Mossbarger) Bennett. Bill was owner and operator of Bill Bennett Salvage in Bloomingburg. He loved to laugh and have fun and was known for playing his practical jokes. He enjoyed gambling, fishing, hunting, taking care of his chickens and cats, taking walks with his wife, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his sons, Billy Bennett and Rod McCarty; grandsons, Robert, Todd, and Johnny; brother, Edward R. "Eddie" Bennett; and sister-in-law, Penny L. Bennett.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Alice Louise (Cain) Bennett, whom he married on August 27, 1990; his children, Luther (Susan) McCarty, Veronica (Danny) Brown, Rob (Traci) Bennett, Victor (Caroline) McCarty, Jim (Leatha) Bennett, Tonya (Donnie) Fleak, and Scott (Brandy) Bennett; twenty grandchildren and twenty-seven great-grandchildren; and siblings, Jane Seitz, Jim (Kathy) Bennett, Helen (JD) Short, and Brenda (Verlon) Tyree. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at 12:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with burial to follow at the Bloomingburg Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
