WILLIAM JOHN "BILL" DILLARD, age 100, of South Charleston, Ohio, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at 12:15 a.m. at his home while surrounded by his family.
He was born on August 23, 1920 in Plattsburgh, Ohio in Clark County to Thomas William and Emma Pearl (Strain) Dillard. Bill proudly served his county in the US Army during World War II. A few years ago, Bill was able to participate in the Honor Flight for Veterans, an all-expense paid trip to the memorials in Washington, D.C., a trip many veterans may not otherwise be able to take. Bill retired from The Champion Chemical Company in Springfield after many years of service. He had also worked on his family farm in South Charleston for most of his life. Bill was a faithful member at the Grace Community Church in South Solon. He always enjoyed working, he was known for being the 'Mr. Fix-It Handyman', mowing the lawn, and being with his family.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife and mother of his children, Dorothy A. (Knisley) Dillard; daughter, Brenda L. Linson; stepson, Rick Lewis; granddaughters, Michele L. Dillard, and Kimberly D. Gilland; and siblings, Wayne Dillard, Carol Greer, Mary Downing, and Victoria Dillard.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Betty A. (Matthews) Dillard, whom he married on April 18. 1998; son, Mike (Pat) Dillard; stepsons, Jeff Creamer, and Robert (Martha) Lewis; son in-law, Gene Linson; grandchildren, Steve (Lenny) Linson, Dan Gilland, James M. (Amanda) Dillard, and Pamela M. (Dillard) McKinster; numerous great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and his brother, Paul Dillard. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of dear and special friends.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, January 25, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. at the Grace Community Church, 7224 E. Main St., South Solon, OH 43153, with Pastor Bruce Sigman officiating with burial to follow at the Rose Hill Burial Park.
