WILLIAM RAY HANNERS, age 81, of Washington CH, passed away on Monday, September 26, 2016 at 5:00 a.m. at Signature Healthcare.
He was born on September 28, 1934 in Greenup County, Kentucky to William and Cora Sagraves Hanners. He had worked at Cortec, Carroll Halliday Ford and retired from Madison County Correctional Institute where he worked for eleven years. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He faithfully attended the nursing home church services. He and his wife, Betty, enjoyed attending bluegrass concerts. Ray enjoyed making buckeye necklaces and watching the games. He always enjoyed being with his family and especially his grandchildren.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Margaret Shaw, Mary Lou Lake and Jeannie Ruth Glispie, brother Roger Glispie, son Kenneth Eugene Maxie and his very special and close grandson, Nathan Maxie.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Hammond Hanners, whom he married on August 8, 1981; his children, Randy Hanners, David Hanners, Mike Hanners, Joy (Allen) Cesafsky, Wayne (Pat) Maxie, Linda (Greg) Miller, Ronnie (Theresa) Maxie and Dan Maxie; twenty-two grandchildren and forty-three great-grandchildren; sibilings Dorothy (Fred) Wheaton, Joyce Glispie, Al Hanners, Russ Hanners and Bob Glispie; and two brother-in-laws, Tom Hammond (Sis Hay) and Bob Hammond as well as several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Rev. DeVon Davis officiating with burial to follow at the Silvercreek Township Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to go to Signature Healthcare, 375 Glenn Ave., Washington CH, OH 43160, in his memory.
