Obituary

WILLIAM L. "SONNY" WALTERS, age 85, of New Holland, went to be with his Lord on Friday, February 3, 2023 at Court House Manor.

Sonny was born on August 29, 1937 in Waverly, Ohio to the late Charles William and Dorothy Mae (Ware) Walters. He was a graduate of Waverly High School and lived most of his life close to the Washington CH area. He was a faithful member at the Grace Community Church. During his high school years, he played football, basketball, and ran track. He received a football scholarship to Xavier University. He loved coaching and coached football for fifty years. Along with football, he coached track and basketball at Miami Trace High School. Sonny also loved to sing and for many years he traveled and sang with the Gospel Hour Quartet.

In addition to his parents, Sonny was preceded in death by his sisters, Joan Walters, Patty Comer, Mary Ellen Wright, and Jane Knight.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly Ann (Owens) Walters, whom he married on March 15, 1972; his children, Tammy (Don) Hyde, Tony (Barb) Walters, Bradley (Trina) Walters, Chip (Kim) Wilt, and Chad Walters; siblings, Dottie Mounts, Kaye (Mick) Humble, Mike (Nancy) Walters, Tim (Alana) Walters, and CJ (Jim) Wilson; grandchildren, Josh Robich, LT Walters and his fiancé, Elyse, Coleston Walters, Summer Stuart, Amberly Hudson, Brooklyn (John) McDonnell, Cara Walters, Caleb Boysel, Lauren (Matt) Flannery, Caleb Wilt, Maci Walters, and Zoe Walters; and great-grandchildren, Blake, Charlee, Christian, Macie, Miah, Caden, Casey, Cameron, and Braelynn. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

In keeping with Sonny's wishes, his body will be donated to the Wright State University School of Medicine for the advancement of science.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, February 12, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the Grace Community Church, 525 Glenn Ave., Washington CH, OH 43160, with Pastor Jay Lucas officing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Grace Community Church.
