Obituary

WILLIS "SAM" EUGENE ANDERS, age 93, of Washington CH, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday morning, January 4, 2017 at 10:20, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on August 16, 1923 in Buena Vista to John and Ethel Dawes Anders. He proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII as a paratrooper in the Philippines and was a proud member of the greatest generation of WWII. He worked as a superintendent of construction, where he was a master carpenter at Sever and Williams Construction Company. He later became job foreman at the Great Oaks Construction Company, and also worked as a maintenance supervisor at the Washington City Schools before his retirement in 1993. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he enjoyed eating out, walking, and his family stated that he never met a stranger.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Roberta Jarnigan Anders who passed away in 1995, brother and sister-in-law, Herb and Ruth Anders, sister, Evelyn West, sisters-in-law, Janet Bell and Irene Smith.

Survivors include his children, Gary (Sue) Anders, Sue (Dwight) Brown, John (Pam) Anders, and Donald (Kami) Anders; 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and brother-in-law, Kerry "Termite" Bell. Also surviving is his canine companion, Maddie.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Danny Dodds officiating with burial to follow at the Highlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
