Alberta (Crosswhite) Steward Obituary

ALBERTA ELIZABETH (CROSSWHITE) STEWARD, age 90, of Washington CH, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, June 23, 2022 at Court House Manor in the presence of her family.

She was born on November 4, 1931 in Fayette County to the late Herbert L. and Pauline L. (Stepter) Crosswhite. She was the second child out of seven.

Alberta was a lifelong resident of Washington CH and a devoted wife and mother to her five children. She had worked as a nursing assistant for many years, always taking care of others, she retired from nursing to care for her family.

Alberta was a faithful and devoted member at the First Church of God on Harrison Street in Washington CH. She sang in the choir and was the church pianist for many years, until her health began to fail.

Alberta loved music, shopping, being with her family, especially her precious grandchildren, but above all, she loved the Lord. She was lovingly known as the, “Mother of the Church,” as she was the oldest living female member.

Including her parents, Alberta was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Juan Edward “Eddie” Steward; her son, Edward Juan “Butch” Steward; brothers, Herbie, Norman, and Robert Crosswhite; nephews, Robbie Qualls, and Michael Qualls; niece, Robbin Crosswhite; and sister-in-law, Jeanette Crosswhite.

Survivors include her children, Douglas K. Steward, Dianna (David) Alsop, Bryan S. (Lanie) Steward, and Christopher J. Steward; grandchildren, Brent (Toni) Alsop, Tyler (Rebecca) Alsop, Taylor Alsop, Kyra (Shemar) Steward, Dillon Steward, Bryan Steward, Jr., Taiwan Weary, Lajuana Kelley, Jasmine Kelley, Brittanie Kelley, Juan Steward, Christina Kelley, Celina Kelley, and Chelsey Stolzenberg; great-grandchildren, Jaedan Meriweather, Liam Alsop, Matthew Jones, Scotti Quigley, Candace Alsop, Zayden Steward, Keah Dotstry, Honesty Nichols, Londynn, Legend, and Loyal Collins, Kenyon Slaughter, Dallas Blue, Samar, Jabril, Samaya, and Jahara Penha, and Genevieve, Timothy, and Symone Woods; siblings, Earl (Toyia) Crosswhite, William (Rita) Crosswhite, and Beverly Qualls; sisters-in-law, Anita Crosswhite, and Annetta Crosswhite; and special cousins, Paula Stepter, and Fulton and Bertha Terry. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, July 1, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Church of God, 610 Harrison St., Washington CH, OH 43160, with Pastor Patrick Gamble, Rev. Jerri Bomgardner, and Minister Kathy Mickey officiating with burial to follow at the Washington Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the church on Friday morning from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Summers Funeral Home to help with final expenses.
