CARMEN BLOOMER JOHNSON, age 86, passed away peacefully at St. Catherine’s Manor on Monday, November 6, 2023. She was born in Grand Forks, North Dakota and graduated from high school there. She attended the University of Cincinnati where she focused on Dance at the College Conservatory. It was at UC where she met a charming football player who swept her off her feet. Carmen married Paul Johnson in June of 1957 and they remained a loving couple until his death in April of 2022.
They moved to Washington Court House in 1962 when Paul was transferred by Armco. Carmen quickly opened The Carmen Johnson School of Dance which remained a staple in the community for 50 years. She taught countless girls and boys of all ages the art of dance ranging from tap to modern jazz. In more recent years she taught dance to senior citizens at the Commission on Aging. Carmen was well known in Fayette County for her warm smile and positive energy.
Carmen is survived by her children; Loree Spears (Neil) and Scott Johnson (Kim); grandchildren, Tyler Spears (Megan), Brodie Spears (Britney), Lacee Baisch (Jeremy), Connor Johnson, Sean Johnson, Christian Johnson, and five great grandchildren, Brooklyn and Rylee Spears, Joel and Libby Spears, and Taz Baisch. She is also survived by two sisters, Judy Arel and Vicki Kolling (Pat).
She lived a beautiful life and was loved by so many. Now she joins Paul in heaven where he has certainly been waiting impatiently for more than a year.
In keeping with Carmen’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no services.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Summers Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent to www.summersfuneralhome.com
