Carol Etta Hicks

CAROL ETTA HICKS, age 83, of Greenfield, passed away at 6:24 p.m. on Monday, August 11, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family and caregivers. Born on November 26, 1941, in Springfield, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Myrtle Wisecup Hilliard. On February 3,1961, she married Elzia Hicks who preceded her in death on March 17, 2024.

Carol was a 1959 graduate of McClain High School. She attended Secretarial School in Columbus and worked various jobs throughout her life until her retirement. Carol was an animal lover; she especially liked to watch the hummingbirds in her backyard and was a member of the World Wilderness Foundation. In the past, Carol enjoyed participating in the Greenfield Hobby Club, playing card games like Bridge and Canasta. She enjoyed cooking, her family enjoyed her chicken and noodles most of all. Carol also had a green thumb, growing many beautiful plants and flowers. She also enjoyed spending time at Penny's dancing with her classmates; they enjoyed the jitterbug and especially listening to Elvis. Carol’s family was what was most important to her, spending time with them as much as she could.

Survivors include her daughters, Stacie (Roger) Williams and Leah Hicks; her grandchildren, Cassy Lee, Tessa Howland, Misty Bracken, Lacie Clark and Hunter Johnson and seven great grandchildren and one great-great on the way. Also surviving are two brothers, special cousin, Gary Bowers and his wife along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and her special K-9 companion, Sophie.

In keeping with Carol’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions in Carol’s name be made to: St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN, 38105
