DONALD LEE “DON” COX, age 75, of Washington Court House, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at 8:39 p.m. at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
Don was born on July 9, 1946 in Ross County, Ohio to Harold and Jesse (Cawley) Cox. He was a 1964 graduate of Washington High School and also attended The Ohio State University for Engineering. Don proudly served his country in the US Air Force while stationed at Anderson Air Force Base, Guam, and Loring Air Force Base, Maine. Don entered the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office in 1971 as a Field Deputy and retired thirty-two years later rising to the rank of Captain of the patrol department. He enjoyed horse racing, playing cards, listening to oldie’s music of the 60s, and was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan. Don was a member of the Aladdin Shriners International; a Freemason with Masonic Lodge #449 of Bloomingburg, Ohio; a former President of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #101 of Washington C.H., Ohio and former Exalted Ruler of the Washington C.H. Elks Lodge #0129.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Derek John Cox; and brothers, Harold Robert Cox, Charles Glenn Cox, and Paul Lewis Cox.
Survivors include his wife, Huguette (Pelletier) Cox, whom he married on September 21, 1970; sons, DL (Christy) Cox, and Cayleb (Jesslyn) Sciacca-Cox; grandchildren, Derek (Gina) Cox, Laura Cox, Kaylen Sciacca-Cox, and Brantley Sciacca-Cox; and sisters-in-law, Edna Cox, Stacy Cox, Nancy Cox, Patty Cox, and Mary Agnes Cox. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of dear and special friends made over the years from law enforcement, sporting events, time for coffee, card playing and the “carnie” life.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. at the Crossroads Christian Church, 175 Halliday Way, Washington C.H., OH 43160, with Joy Stanforth officiating. Family and friends may visit at the church on Tuesday afternoon from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service. In keeping with his wishes, cremation will follow, and burial will take place at the Washington Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
