Dwight Darrell Merritt

DWIGHT DARRELL MERRITT, age 57, of Hillsboro, passed away on Monday, January 3, 2022 at 4:56 p.m. at Highland District Hospital.

He was born on August 12, 1964 in Greenfield, Ohio to Rodger M. and Shirley J. (Harper) Merritt. He was a 1983 graduate of Miami Trace High School. Dwight was currently employed at Adient in Greenfield where he worked as a maintenance supervisor. He also built homes for many years with his late father, Rodger. Dwight was a loving and devoted son, father, grandfather, and brother. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson, golfing, and was an avid Ohio State Buckeye and Washington Redskins fan.

Dwight was preceded in death by his father; grandparents, Carl and Gladys Merritt, and Virgil and Josephine Harper; niece, Lauren Fisher; and mother-in-law, Mary Jo Trefz.

Survivors include his mother, Shirley J. Merritt; his children, Erica (Caleb) McKinney, Dalton (Amber) Merritt, and Reba Merritt; grandchildren, Mikhaylee Ragland, Adam, Brody, and Camden McKinney, and Ava Merritt; and siblings, Doug (Jacki) Merritt and Marilyn Fisher; father-in-law, Leon Trefz; and his beloved canine companion, Gidget. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of dear and special friends.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at the Heritage Church, 1867 US 35 NW, Washington CH, OH 43160, with Pastor Mike Hodge and Joy Stanforth officiating with burial to follow at the Good Hope Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the church on Friday evening from 4-8:00 p.m.
