ELIZABETH JEAN (BUTCHER) CORNELL, age 71, of Washington CH, formerly of Bloomingburg, passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at her home.
She was born on May 14, 1953 in Fayette County to the late Merrill E. and Zelma M. (Penwell) Butcher. She was a graduate of Miami Trace High School. Elizabeth had worked at the YUSA Corporation until her health would no longer allow. She enjoyed gambling, bowling, spending time with her family and grandchildren, and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Michigan fan.
In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was preceded in death by her siblings, Gerald Butcher, Bill Butcher, Tillie Bryan, Pollyann Butcher, and infant Butcher.
Survivors include her children, Tony (Beth) Butcher, Crystal (Cornell) Kingery, Josh “Punky” (Tammy) Butcher; her second son, Dwaine (Paulena) Robbins; grandchildren, Tyler (Bethany) Butcher, Mackenzie (Braden) Puckett, Blake (Sophia) Laymon, Jakob Hoosier, Sydnie Laymon, Aleecia Berry, Chelsea Moore, and Noah Butcher; fourteen great-grandchildren; siblings, Merrill (Meda) Butcher, John Franklin (Sybil) Butcher, and Nellie Lee Hurley; sister-in-law, Alice Butcher; special sister-in-law, Patty (Cornell) Schraner; and her significant other of more than twenty years, Lonnie Ayers. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, November 29, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Pastor Phil Gant officiating. Family and friends may visit the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. In keeping with her wishes, cremation is to follow.
