Gary Layton Leisure Obituary

GARY LAYTON LEISURE, age 66, of Washington Court House, passed away at 3:16 A.M. on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at his home, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Fayette County on June 21, 1957 to the late Darrell E. and Helen Bondurant Leisure. On August 1, 1976 he married the former Lois “Jeanie” Gragg Leisure, who survives.

Gary proudly served his country in the United States Army for over 25 years and was a retired Mail Carrier for the United States Post Office. He was a member of Fayette Aerie #423 of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the American Legion Post 25 in Washington Court House. Gary enjoyed guns, and everything outdoors, especially fishing, hunting and camping.

In addition to his loving wife, survivors include his children, Gary W. Leisure, Kristin N. (Ben Dean) Leisure all of Washington C.H. and Kelly J. Leisure Curliss of New Orleans, LA; his grandchildren, Megan Colwell, Mykenzie, Leighton and Kylie Leisure and Nathan and Bryce Curliss; his great-grandchildren, Charleigh Baudendistel and Payton and Makenna Colwell. Also surviving is his brothers and sisters, Sue Templin of Frankfort, Darrell Leisure of Williamsport, Jeannie (Danny) Aslpaugh and Michael Leisure both of Washington C.H.; his daughter in-law, Jessica Leisure; his son in-law, Brian Curliss; his brother and sister in laws, Rick and Marjorie Gragg and Lisa Smith; his special aunt, Laura Hurley along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Along with his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Miranda Leisure; his sister, Leora May Johnson; his brother in-laws, Bill Gragg and Michael Davis, Sr.; his sister in-laws, Sarah Leisure and Luann Leach; his father and mother in-law, William and Margaret Gragg; and his nephew, Michael Davis, Jr. (A.K.A. Bubby).

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, November 17, 2023 in the Summers Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Washington Cemetery where Military Rites will be accorded by the Fayette County Honor Guard. Friends may visit with the family on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
