Gene William Vernon

GENE WILLIAM VERNON, age 87, of Washington CH, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 6, 2024 at his home while surrounded by family.

He was born on May 13, 1936 in Holmes County, Ohio to the late Wilbur Charles and Catherine (Tomkins) Vernon.

He lived in Fayette County for the last 40 years. Over the years, he farmed with his family and worked at Robertson Fence Company.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bloomingburg, Ohio.

On May 29, 1966, he married Helen Louise Jones-Dawes.

In his free time, he enjoyed gardening and doing yard work.

In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his son, George Dawes, his twin brother, Glen Vernon, and son-in-law, Dan Fisher.

Gene is survived by his wife Helen Vernon, two daughters, Faith (Mick) Cottrill and Mildred Fisher, two sons, Bill (Amy) Vernon and Jon Vernon; seven grandchildren, Jeremy Cottrill, Josh (Amber) Cottrill, Branden LaCombe, Wes (Jenna) Dawes, Jenna (Josh Brannigan) Dawes, Gabby Dawes, and Will Vernon; thirteen great-grandchildren, Lily and Alexander LaCombe, Savannah and Mason Cottrill, Gavin Cottrill, Westin and Lanie Dawes, Griffin Dawes, Colten Brannigan, Adilyn Brannigan, Grant and Audrey Baker, Gracie Hall; one brother Raymond Vernon.  Also surviving is a host of nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held at Summers Funeral Home in Washington CH on Monday, May 13, 2024 from 4-6:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Bert Alsept officiating. Interment will follow in the Bloomingburg Cemetery.
