Gertrude B. "Trudy" Ponder

GERTRUDE B. “TRUDY” PONDER, age 85, of Palm Coast, Florida, formerly of Washington CH, passed away on Sunday, November 7, 2021 at AdventHealth Daytona Beach.

She was born on June 12, 1936 in Kentucky to Lonnie and Caldona (Lykens) Warrens. Trudy was a stay-at-home wife and mother of five children. She was a member at the Beachside Baptist Church in New Smyrna Beach. Trudy was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She enjoyed cooking, making doll clothes and christening gowns for baptism.

Trudy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles Ponder; son, Lewis W. Johnson; and siblings, Willie Warrens, Curtis Warrens, Douglas Warrens, Donald Warrens, Catherine Gayheart, Esther Harrington, and Garnet Sloan.

Survivors include her children, Rose M. Young, Shela K. (Colwyn) McDowell, Deborah (Ron) Terry, and Taylor Gayheart; grandchildren, Jeremy Johnson, Jami (Craig) Short, Sommer (Jeff) Green, Faith (Alberto) Maldonaco, Brian Stevenson, Jr., Alyssa Stevenson, Kaylee (Cheyanne) Rankin, and Arielle Gayheart; sixteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and siblings, Samuel Warrens, and Joyce Simon. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of dear and special friends.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, November 15, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Danny Dodds officiating with burial to follow at the Washington Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 4-7:00 p.m.
