JAY EDWARD SMITH, age 81, of Washington CH, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 25, 2024 at his home.
He was born on June 3, 1943 in Bloomingburg, Ohio to the late Dewey B. and Louise M. (Webb) Smith. He was a 1961 graduate of Madison Mills High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era. Jay was a fire fighter for the Washington CH Fire Department for twenty-five plus years. After his retirement, he worked for Ferno Washington in Wilmington. He enjoyed reading the newspaper, playing Sudoku, and spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Jay was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sandy Kay (Kelley) Smith, whom he married on April 21,1972; and siblings, Ann Woods Smith, Joy Randolph, and Wilbur Smith.
Survivors include his sons, Benjamin G. (Joni) Smith, and Andrew J. (Janelle) Smith; grandchildren, Keely, Marley, Alex, AJ, McKenzie, and Jaidyn; sister, Jean Furniss; brothers-in-law, Randy (Linda Ramsey) Kelley, and Jeff (Belma) Kelly; special cousin and friend, Ivan Webb; and his faithful canine companion, Betsy. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 31, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Pastor Dylan Kelly officiating with burial to follow at the Madison Mills Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5-7:00 p.m.
