JERRY JEROME SHAW, age 89, of Washington CH, went home to be with his Savior on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at St. Catherine's Manor of Washington CH where he had been a resident since November of 2023.
He was born on December 7, 1934 in Hocking County, Ohio to the late Robert A. and Vivian (Goss) Shaw. He was a 1952 graduate of Logan High School and attended The Ohio State University where he studied Animal Science. After his studies at OSU, Jerry worked for Producers Livestock Association for 12 years. He then became Area Manager for Kleen Leen Inc (Division of Ralston Purina Co). Jerry then worked as an Agriculture Specialist for Agri-Enterprise for a short time before becoming the Owner and Operator of a Convenient type food operation. In his pastime, he volunteered with the Madison Township Volunteer Fire department. Upon moving, he soon sought out the WCH fire dept where he served and met the owners of what was to become Fayette Fire and Safety. Jerry settled in his career path as he owned and operated Fayette Fire & Safety Equipment Company in Washington CH for over twenty years.
Jerry’s love of animals prompted him to purchase some land which became known to the family as “Jerry’s Fifty or More.” The land became home to a few cattle, some horses, and DJ the Donkey. The family enjoyed many fun activities at the farm, from cookouts, to horse backing riding to fishing. Jerry also received much enjoyment attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. There were very few sporting events he missed. Jerry enjoyed socializing and you would typically find him with his breakfast crowd at Our Place Restaurant. Upon residing at St. Catherine’s Nursing Home, he quickly became known as “The Boss”, he made many new friends, enjoyed Word Searches and became an avid Bingo player. Jerry served as a Fayette County 4-H advisor for 7 years. He also volunteered with the Diabetic Association and delivered Meals on Wheels. He was a faithful member at the Fayette Bible Church.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife, Linda Kay (Deeds) Shaw, whom he married on June 24, 1956; and grandson, Scott Shaw of Texas.
Survivors include his children, Mark A. (Shelly) Shaw, Bret S. (Debra) Shaw, Trent E. (Gina) Shaw, and Kristen L. (Glenn) Conn; grandchildren, Brice (Kristy) Shaw, Devon (David) Abood, Joshua (Milyn) Humpreys, Bradley (Carrie) Shaw, Casey (Loren) Shaw, Derek (Cori) Shaw, Ethan (Savannah) Conn, and Kyler Conn; great-grandchildren, Lewis Shaw, Griffin Shaw, Riley Bland, Caleb Shaw, Liam Humphreys, Bryar Shaw, Hudson Shaw, Gavin Shaw, Greyson Shaw, Parker Shaw, and Cash Conn. Also surviving are a host of dear and special friends.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fayette Bible Church with Pastor Tony Garren and Pastor Michael Conn officiating. Family and friends may visit at the Church on Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. The burial will be held at a later date at Franklin Hills Memory Gardens in Canal Winchester.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Ohio’s Hospice of Fayette County, 222 N. Oakland Ave., Washington CH, OH 43160 or to Fayette Bible Church, 1315 Dayton Ave. NW, Washington CH, OH 43160.
