JOHN PAUL TUSSEY, age 72, of Mt. Sterling, passed away at 6:26 p.m. on Sunday, May 11, 2025, at his home. Born on January 2, 1953, in Olive Hill, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Earl and Erma Erwin Tussey. On September 9, 1972, he married the former Dee Fountain, who survives.
John was a 1971 graduate of Miami Trace High School and worked most of his life building houses as a self-employed contractor. He and his wife were members of the Fruitdale Community Church and had previously attended Madison Mills Methodist Church. In John’s spare time he enjoyed golfing, fishing and playing cards with his friends, especially Euchre. Known as “Poppy” to his grandchildren, spending time with them is what he cherished most.
In addition to his loving wife of almost fifty-three years, survivors include his children, Heather (Joe) Camp and Rob Tussey and his fiancé, Cassie Linden. John is also survived by his grandchildren, Kennedy, Jackson, Raegan, Joel and Willow; his mother in-law, Jenny Fountain; his nieces, Teresa Perkins, Amy Sheerin and Emily Latona, along with several other nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and his beloved dog, Tucker.
Along with his parents, John is preceded in death by his sister, Fannie Yates and several other siblings; father-in-law, Robert “Bob” Fountain; and brother-in-law, Gary Fountain.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 16, 2025, in the Summers Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Barnhart of the Fruitdale Community Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Madison Mills Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, the evening before the service from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
