Lauretta Spies Obituary

LAURETTA IRENE SPIES, returned to be home with the Lord on March 28, 2023, at 3:02 am at the age of 99. She passed peacefully in her sleep at Carriage Court in Washington Court House, Ohio. Lauretta was born on March 22, 1924 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late David and Elsie Bowman (Cromwell).

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years James W. Spies, her brother Vernon D. Bowman, grandson Corey W. Pepper, and great grandson Cody R. Sampson. She is survived by her three daughters Bonnie (Joe) Moran, Robin (Bill) Pepper, and Tamara (Fred) Lovely. Six grandchildren Melissa Smith, Rick Pace, Tara Henderson, Lacey Wallace, Tina (Matt) Cain, and Kelly Pepper. Eleven great-grandchildren Shawn Phillips, Lindsey (Marc) Stemann, Megan (Matt) South, Gage Cain, Danielle (John) Roberts, Jamison Pace, Levi Brockman, Justice Henderson, Tiara Henderson, Austin (Bri) Hall, Paytin Hall, sixteen great-great-grandchildren, and too many friends to count them all.

Lauretta always enjoyed taking care of the things she loved. Her family, friends, her home, her pets. You would never catch her out of the house without looking her “Sunday’s best.” She loved when strangers would try to guess her age as they always guessed her decades younger than she really was. Her secret to a youthful face you would ask. Ponds cold cream! Lauretta spent many summers on Jack’s Lake in Ontario Canada at the cottage her husband built by hand. There, she would cook delicious meals and spend time with the family she loved so dearly. Lauretta was also well known in her community. She participated in events and was a member of the Red Hat Society. She absolutely loved to get dressed up in her red and purple outfits with lavish hats to gather with her friends. Lauretta is dearly missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing her. Lauretta’s family finds peace knowing she has returned home and is smiling down on everyone she cared about with her husband, her family, and God.
