M. “GENE” MALCOM, age 93, of Washington CH, passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2022 at his home.
He was born on August 24, 1928 in Hillsboro, Ohio to the late Jess and Elma (Frost) Malcom. Gene spent most of his early years in the Hillsboro and Greenfield area. After his marriage to his beloved wife, Joan (Lucas) Malcom, whom he married on February 24, 1951, he moved to Washington CH. Gene was employed at the US Shoe Factory in Greenfield for 45 years.
As a young man, he was passionate about cars. Gene developed a great love for trains as a small child after being diagnosed with Polio. He was able to fix anything, especially lawnmowers and bikes. In his later years, he enjoyed attending flea markets and yard sales with his son. He would never buy anything unless he had a plan for its use.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Malcom; sisters, Alberta Wilson, and Bernice McMurray; in-laws, Charles (Elsie) Lucas; sister-in-law, Janet Bell; and brother-in-law, Willard Wilson.
Survivors include his loving and devoted son, Bradley L. Malcom; sister-in-law, Joy Lucas of Kettering; nephews, Kenny (Julie) Wilson of Mississippi and their family, Cheri (Bear) Overmyer of Columbus and Rob and Dough Wilson; Walter (Virginia) Bell of Millersport, Ohio and their family, Ryan Bell, and Liv (Lenox) Urbane and children, Hayden Strider, Brayden and Megan Cook, Lyric, Lenox, Jr., and Legend Urbane of Mobile, Alabama, and Rodney (Diane) Bell and their children Curtis Bell, and Melissa Murdock, and Makayla, Brody, and Makenna of Greenfield. Also surviving are several other nieces, nephews, and a host of dear and special friends.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Danny Dodds officiating with burial to follow at the South Solon Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6-8:00 p.m.
