MARIE EVELYN MATSON, age 94, of Washington CH, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, October 23, 2023 at Four Seasons of Washington Nursing and Rehabilitation.
She was born on December 17, 1928 in South Solon, Ohio to the late Rev. Russell and Lillie (Harbage) Knisley. She was a 1947 graduate of Bourneville High School and continued her education at the Springfield City Hospital School of Nursing where she received her degree as a Registered Nurse. Marie started her nursing career at Fayette County Memorial Hospital in September of 1950, shortly after the hospital opened its doors. She later worked for Oakfield Convalescent Center and Carlton Manor. Marie was a faithful member of Heritage Memorial Church and was saved at the tender age of twelve, she was healed of a major heart anomaly. She enjoyed reading her Bible, doing word searches, and playing Scrabble.
In addition to her parents, Marie was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, Neil Richard Matson, whom she married on July 7, 1951; her sons, Mike Matson and Mark Matson; siblings, Mary Elizabeth Knisley, Freda Mae Knisley, Gladys Marhoover, Naomi Cooper, Neil Knisley, John Knisley, and Wilbur Knisley; in-laws, Bernard and Ruth Matson; brother-in-law, Emmitt Lloyd; and sister-in-law, Caroline Knisley.
Survivors include her son, Bruce R. (June) Matson; grandchildren, Bruce N. (Toni) Matson and Allen R. (Grace) Matson; great-grandchildren, Rylie, Myles, and Michael; sister, Joyce (Owen) Johnson; and sister-in-law, Sally Knisley. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
The funeral service will be held at the Summers Funeral Home on Monday, October 30, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. with Joy Stanforth officiating with burial to follow at the Washington Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Monday morning from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
