MARK OWEN MERRITT, age 69, of Washington CH, entered into his Heavenly Home on Friday, May 27, 2022 at 4:47 p.m. at the Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe after a courageous battle with Esophageal Cancer.
He was born on May 16, 1953 in Fayette County to Rev. Austin Owen and Ruth Naomi (Cummings) Merritt. He was a 1971 graduate of Greenfield McClain High School and a 1982 graduate of Olivet Nazarene University. Mark proudly served his country in the Air National Guard of Ohio. He had worked for the Ohio Department of Agriculture and retired from Fayette County Memorial Hospital in 2021 where he had worked as a lab technician for many years. Mark was a good and faithful servant at the Gathering Place Church. He enjoyed radio-controlled airplanes, obtaining his own pilot license, and was an avid outdoorsman.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Larry Merritt, and Julia Merritt; sister-in-law, Pam Merritt; nephew, Stacey Merritt; father and mother-in-law, Robert and Eleanor Waymire; and brother-in-law, Clyde McLerran.
Survivors include his loving wife, Cynthia Ann (Waymire) Merritt, whom he married on July 28, 2001; brother, Martin Merritt; brothers-in-law, Jarrel (Janice) Waymire, Rev. Dennis (Patricia) Waymire, and Steve (Becky) Waymire; sisters-in-law, Linda (Rev. Mark) Murphy, Shirley McLerran, and Linda Merritt; stepmother-in-law, Jean Waymire; and nieces, Christina (Robert) Morrison, and Sarah (Adam) Marshall. Also surviving are several other nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, June 3, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at The Gathering Place Church, 240 Courthouse Pkwy, Washington CH, OH 43160, with Pastor John Pfeifer and Rev. Daniel Edwards officiating with burial to follow at the Highlawn Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the church on Thursday evening from 5-7:00 p.m.
