MARTHA “JOAN” BUTCHER, age 85, of Washington CH, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 10, 2025 at Carriage Court of Washington CH. She passed less than twenty-four hours after her beloved husband, Loren L. Butcher, Jr., some may believe she passed of a broken heart.
She was born on September 27, 1939 in Greene County, Ohio to the late Calvin “Woody” and Ruby (Eavers) Crabtree. She was a 1957 graduate of Jeffersonville High School. Joan retired as an office manager from Travel Centers of America in Jeffersonville. Joan was a member of the Jeffersonville United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, bowling, and she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was lovingly known as “Grandma B.”
In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Loren Leland Butcher, Jr., whom she married on August 9, 1974, and brother, Don Crabtree.
Survivors include her children, Chris Brown, Steve (Tammy) Butcher, Nikki Dunn, Teresa (Douglas) Phillips, and Scott Butcher; thirteen grandchildren and twenty-nine great-grandchildren; and sister, Blanche (Dick) Robinson. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Knauff officiating with burial to follow at the Washington Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Friday evening from 4-7:00 p.m.
