OWEN HARPER, JR., age 78, of Cincinnati, Ohio was welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven on January 7, 2021 at the Liberty Nursing Center of Colerain in Cincinnati. He was born on April 24, 1942 in Ashe County, North Carolina to Owen Sr. and Lillian (Jennings) Harper.
He graduated in 1960 from God’s Bible School and attended Circleville Bible College, and the Nazarene Bible College for Ministry of Music. Owen’s passion for music led way for him to minister music at various churches throughout the years. Along with his music contributions, he worked as a Computer Technician at Cincom Systems, headquartered out of Cincinnati. Owen was active civically, orchestrating numerous fundraisers to raise money and awareness for the AIDS Taskforce and breakthroughs in cutting edge medicine.
Owen attended the old Gregg Street Church of Christ in Christian Union, as well as Heritage Memorial Church. Owen enjoyed cooking, traveling, and being with his friends and family. He will be forever remembered for his healthy appetite, love of cats, and funny demeaner. He was a “hoot”.
Owen is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Connie Harper.
He is survived by his loving children, Tony (Tracey) Harper, Angela Harper, Shon Harper, and Joey (Beth) Harper. In addition, he leaves his grandchildren, Trevor (Michelle) Patton, Morgan Harper, and Bailey Harper, siblings, Duane (Tina) Harper, Barb (Don) McBeth, and Joy (Vernon) Stanforth, special cousin, Pam Jennings, and special friends, Bill Wilson, and Chuck Murphy. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family and interment will follow at the Washington Cemetery.
